Feeling so grateful to have been in community with an amazing cohort of adoptees over the past 2 days. Training has just wrapped but keep an eye out for Mentor Lounges and 1:1 sessions lead by me. Thank you so much @adopteementorship! I cannot wait to connect with adoptees worldwide! ✊🏾✨ Big thank you to @adoptee_thoughts for continuously advocating for adoptee rights. Melissa's latest article for @theeverymom is a strong piece highlighting different adoptee perspectives and why the adoptees featured are pro-choice. Take a look at the article here - https://bit.ly/3aBs4Iq Hey folks, Cheers to 5/5, Cinco De Mayo for some, and now my ex-anniversary. In my last post I discussed some of the pitfalls that marriage brought me but in celebration of my own resilience I want to highlight some of the blessings that being divorced has given me. Long time no talk adoptee fam. 👋🏾I felt the need to post again as part of my own healing journey and as things in my life start stabilizing… Everything feels so surreal right now. Thank you so much @washingtonpost for allowing me to share my story as a #transracialadoptee. I am beyond blown away by all the support that my chosen family and the greater adoptee community have shown me. Little Keturah never thought she’d get to a place where she was proud to be a TRA and was so open about sharing her story. Happy Halloween & Happy Dia Del Los Muertos 🎃✨🍂 Hey friends, I just wanted to plug that I’ll be joining @adoptionmosaic this Saturday to talk about being an adoptee and having siblings! I’m excited to share my experiences as an older sibling to both biological and adoptive siblings and hear from some of the other amazing panelists! Please join us if you feel like you want to learn more about the adoption triad and how to support adoptees worldwide. As I get back into blogging I figured I'd reintroduce myself since I've noticed quite a few new faces/accounts/folx in the Adoption Community IG space.
  • Spoken Emotion: A collection of poetry about adoption – Elizabeth & Oliver Archer

Hello friends, It’s time for another book review. It’s been a while but, since #nationalpoetrymonth takes place in April, I thought I’d focus on poetry books about adoption or that have been written by adoptees. The first in this series is the collection Spoken Emotion, by Elizabeth and Oliver Archer. As I was searching for…

  • The Adoptee Reads is back: A little update on where I’ve been

Hello friends, It’s been almost over a year since I last posted. I can’t believe it’s been so long! I think most of us can say that surviving the pandemic along with other life changes has been challenging. I’ll be honest, the pandemic, coupled with the rise in hate crimes and police brutality has been…

  • National Foster Care Month – Awareness & Resources

Hello adoption family, It’s been a while! I’ve been offline for around nine months due to some changes in my career, relationships, and living spaces. Though I quit blogging around April of 2019, I’m hoping to restart The Adoptee Reads during the month of May. I’ll once again be reading and reviewing books that discuss…

  • Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self // Book Review

Hello Friends, It’s been a bit, but I’m back with another book review. I’ve been busy the past two weeks and I feel lucky to have had some time to read, Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self. Spring Break occurred for my town’s school district and I’ve been busy chasing around children while also…

  • When the Black Girl Sings – Bil Wright // YA Book Review

Hi Friends, It’s time for another book review. This week I got to read a Young-Adult book focused on adoption. Hooray! It’s rare that I find books centered around adoption in YA literature, but in the coming years I’d like to see more. Growing up, it would have been very meaningful to have found a…

  • The Primal Wound – Nancy Verrier // Book Notes Pt.3

Hello friends, This post concludes the last of my book notes on The Primal Wound by author Nancy Verrier. You can find the other two blog posts here and here. I’ve been taking notes on this book rather than doing a long book review due to the plethora of information that the book has on…

  • The Primal Wound – Nancy Verrier // Book Notes Pt. 2

These next few blog posts aren’t full book reviews on the text but, a collection of interesting notes that I took down while reading the book.

  • The Primal Wound – Nancy Verrier // Book Notes

he Primal Wound instead discusses the psychological and physical symptoms that adoption can have on the adopted triad, (birth mother, adoptee, and adoptive parents) and focuses primarily on helping to heal the hurt adoptee.

  • In Their Own Voices: Transracial Adoptees Tell Their Stories // Part 2

One of the most interesting things that I noticed while reading the men’s stories in Part Two was a large number of similarities that many of the men shared. One’s identity around their perceived “blackness,” was present in almost all of the men’s stories and ideas around how one’s adoptive parents celebrated or, left out…

  • In Their Own Voices: Transracial Adoptees Tell Their Stories – Rhonda & Simon

Many issues around a transracial adoptee’s ethnic, cultural, and self-identity center around the support or, lack of, the support they have experienced from their adoptive parents. Part Two is split between twelve women and twelve men sharing their stories about their transracial adoption.
